Results and league standings weekend 8th July

 

Bournemouth and District Saturday Triples:

Swanage Swans were away playing Pelhams Sharks and won overall 30 shots to 24 gaining    4 points and remain top of Section 1 by 5 points.

Swanage Dolphins were away playing Bournemouth Buffalos and won overall 43 shots to 24 gaining 6 points and return to top of Section 5B with 42 points, 2 points clear.

Swanage Seagulls were at home to Fordingbridge Fire and won overall 44 shots to 21 gaining 6 points and are now 5th in Section 5A with 26 points.

Swanage Puffins were at home to Wimborne Charlie and won overall 43 shots to 30 gaining 6 points and move to 7th place in Section 5A with 22 points.

Bournemouth and District Ladies’ League:

We were on the carpet this week playing Braeside 1 and won overall 35 shots to 33, a close game gaining 4 points and move up to 3rd place with 41 points 1 point off the lead.

Edna Paisley Triples:

We were at home to Blandford Otters this week and lost overall 26 shots to 45 but gained 2 points for a rink win. We are bottom of this league with 16 points.

Bowls Dorset Men’s League:

We had a week off and remain 5th place with 24 points.

Percy Baker E2:

We were at home to Wimborne and won overall 34 shots to 31 gaining 4 points and are in 3rd place with 32 points.

MIXED BAG IN THE LEAGUES THIS WEEK

Bournemouth and District Saturday Triples:

Swanage Swans were away at New Milton ‘C’ and lost overall by a small margin, 31 shots to 29, gaining 2 points for rink win. They are still top of Section 1 by 3 points.

Swanage Dolphins had a week off, due to Wimborne Delta withdrawing from this league. They are now second in Section 5B 2 points off the lead.

Swanage Puffins lost narrowly to Knyveton Gardens ‘C’, at home by one shot 31-30, gaining 2 points for rink win. They are still the strongest in Section 5A but now only by 2 points.

Swanage Seagulls at home to Highcliffe ‘D’, who are top of Section 5A, were trounced 52 shots to 17, not gaining any points are now 7th in this section.

Bournemouth and District Ladies’ League:

They played Fordingbridge at home winning comfortably 46 shots to 28, gaining 6 points, sitting in 4th place with 37 points after 10 games.

Edna Paisley Triples:

We were away at Poole Park and lost 31 shots to 27, gaining 2 points for rink win, sitting in 7th place after 7 games with 14 points.

Bowls Dorset Men’s League:

The team travelled to Gillingham for this game and tantalisingly lost overall by 1 shot score 51-50, gaining 2 points for rink win, sitting 5th in league with 24 points after 7 games.

Percy Baker E2:

We were away to Blandford and lost overall by 34 shots to 25, gaining 2 points for rink win, after 8 games we sit 3rd in league with 24 points.

LADIES PAIR HAVE A DATE AT COUNTY FINALS

COUNTY LADIES’ PAIRS FINAL FOR GILL and SUE

Gill Bryceson and Sue Bird qualified for the quarter and semi-finals at Lyme Regis on Saturday 1st July. They qualified by beating Joan Shaw and Chris Sexton from Broadstone Wessex in the preliminary round, Sally Rowe and Lyn Howard also from Broadstone Wessex in the first round and then Jill Bell and Barbara Trite from West Moors in the second round.

Then at Lyme Regis on Saturday, in the morning beat Delphine Way and Jan Cornick from Blandford in the quarters. In the afternoon beat Julie Leake and Bridget Hodder from Poole Park.

Now over the weekend of 22nd/23rd July, are set to meet Carolyn Hart and Linda Murray from Sherborne in the County Finals at Dorchester. Both pairs will represent Dorset in the Ladies’ Pairs, at the National Finals, in Leamington Spa.

LEAGUE STANDINGS HALF WAY THROUGH SEASON

Bournemouth and District Saturday Triples:

Swanage Dolphins and Puffins had ‘rest day’ this weekend, Dolphins are still top of section 5B by 4 points and Puffins still stay strong.

Swanage Swans were at home to Southbourne ‘C’, second place in section 1, and won convincingly 43 shots to 25, gaining 6 points and stay top 7 points clear.

Swanage Seagulls were away to Knyveton Gardens ‘C’, who are now top of section 5A, as we lost 45 shots to 18 scoring no points and are 6th in section with 20 points.

Edna Paisley Triples:

We were at home to Broadstone Tigers, winning 34 shots to 25 gaining 4 points. After 6 games we have won 2 and lost 4, we stand 6th in the league with 12 points.

Bowls Dorset Men’s League:

We were away to Blandford and lost 60 shots to 58 overall but won on 2 rinks gaining 4 points. After 6 games we have won 2 and lost 4, we stand 5th in the league with 22 points.

Percy Baker E2:

We were away to Poole Park and lost 34 shots to 29 overall but won on 1 rink gaining 2 points. After 7 games we have won 4 and lost 3, we stand 3 rd in the league with 26 points.

Bournemouth and District Ladies’ league:

We were at home to Milford on Sea and lost 36-31 shots overall but won on 1 rink gaining 2 points. After 9 games we have won 6 and lost 3, we stand 4th in the league with 31 points. Unfortunately we have lost a 10 shots for late reporting of results!

TRIPLES WINNING SIDES HAVE A HICCUP

Bournemouth and District Mixed Triples results 17th June

 

Our winning ways stuttered, Swans and Dolphins both lost but gained 2 points each for winning one rink in their games.

 

Swanage Swans played away against Braeside Bandicoots and the carpet took its toll. Losing by 41 shots to 24 but gaining 2 points for winning one rink. These 2 points, keeping the Swans top of Section 1, leading by 1 point.

 

Swanage Dolphins were at home to Lyndhurst and lost on one rink and won on the other, winning by one shot on the last end, scoring 30 shots to 37 overall, and gaining 2 points.  The Dolphins stay top of Section 5B by 4 points.

 

Swanage Seagulls played at home in this ‘local derby’ against Swanage Puffins. Brian Beeston’s rink had a ‘nip & tuck’ game against Roger Senior’s rink having been 11 all after 14 ends but going down 13 shots to 15 at 18 ends. Nadine Evans’ rink kept their nose in front after 10 ends against Jim Andrew’s rink and finished 19 shots to 10. The Seagulls remain 4th in Section 5A, 4 points off the lead.

 

Swanage Puffins, as above were ‘away’ in this ‘local derby’ against the Seagulls, taking 2 points for Roger Senior’s rink winning 15 shots to 13. The Puffins are now ‘the strongest team’ in Section 5A.

SATURDAY MIXED TRIPLES RESULTS

Bournemouth and District Saturday Mixed Triples results 10th June

 

Swanage Swans were away to Ferndown ‘A’ and won convincingly 38 shots to 26 and gained maximum points of 6.

They are still at the top of Section 1, leading by 5 points.

 

Swanage Dolphins were away to Downton Bustards, winning on one rink and loosing on one but winning overall 35 shots to 27, gaining 5 points.

They are still top of Section 5B, leading by 6 points.

 

Swanage Seagulls were at home to Downton Dragons. Unfortunately, Downton, due to a late medical problem could only field one rink, needing 3 shots to win on the last end, we were holding 2 shots and the last bowl came in to take shot, therefore the Seagulls won 20 shots to 19. This gave us 6 points and moved the team up to 4th in Section 5A.

 

Swanage Puffins were at home to Argyll ‘E’ who fielded a very strong team and beat the Puffins on both rinks. We lost overall 27 shots to 47, ending up 8th in Section 5A.

SATURDAY MIXED TRIPLES RESULTS

Bournemouth and District Saturday Triple results 3rd June

Swanage Swans (section 1)

Played Ferndown ‘B’ at home, winning on both rinks scoring 51 shots to 17 gaining 6 points, they remain top 3 points clear.

 

Swanage Dolphins (section 5B)

Played Bournemouth Broncos at home, winning on both rinks scoring 51 shots to 27 gaining 6 points, they remain top 2 points clear.

 

Swanage Puffins (section 5A)

Played Downton Dragons away, winning on one rink and overall scoring 36 shots to 33 gaining 4 points, moving up a place in the league to 6th.

 

Swanage Seagulls (section 5A)

Played Bournemouth Beavers away, lost overall and on both rinks 18 shots to 47 gaining no points, dropping 2 places in the league to 7th.

SWANAGE PLAYS HOST TO COUNTY GAMES


On Sunday 4th June, around one hundred people were at Swanage bowling club to watch or play in the Dorset County Ladies senior fours knockout quarter and semi-finals.

Teams involved were from seven clubs:

SWANAGE (S. King, J. Smooker, L. Wallis and skip S. Bird).

POOLE PARK (S. Pinson, T. Cordial, J. Leake and skip B. Hodder).

DORCHESTER (H. Lannon S. Lawley, F. Dyer, and skip S. Willis).

SHERBORNE (D. Rock, C. Hart, S. Ford and skip A. Streets).

BRANKSOME PARK (V. Baxter, S. Harris, U. King and skip C. Assal).

BRIDPORT (F. Hewitt, L. Kennedy, A. Tibble and skip C. MacKenzie)

LYME REGIS had two teams qualify for the quarters (A. Allman, H. Dowling, L. Broom and skip P. Weech) and (M. Haseman, J. Parson, N. Discoll and skip E. Sarson).

 

Quarterfinals:

Poole Park played ‘out of their skins’ and comfortably beat Swanage. Lyme Regis team skipped by P. Weech, pulled away from their club mates in the latter ends of this game. Sherborne beat Dorchester by scoring more than singles when winning an end. Branksome Park beat Bridport with the last wood of the game, winning by one shot.

 

Semi-finals:

Poole Park were on fire against Lyme Regis and won this semi by 28 shots to 5 and progress to the finals.

Sherborne  left it late to win this game against Branksome Park, taking it by two shots on the last end 19-17.
